Together with the sundial in Piazza San Francesco, which bears the motto, <em>\u201cOmnes sub eodem sole- we all live under the same sun,\u201d<\/em> the stones form a war memorial dedicated to soldier, Yeshwant Ghadge. In July 1944, he was the sole survivor of a Maratha platoon that had been ambushed by German machine gunfire.
