Oddo Fortebracci, the father of Braccio of Montone, was entrusted with the task of reorganising and restructuring Montone\u2019s fortress and defensive structures.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cfc0249 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cfc0249\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIt is considered to have taken place much later than the construction of the city walls; the depiction of Montone at the feet of the <em>Madonna della Misericordia<\/em>, painted by Bartolomeo Caporali in 1482, does not feature it. This gate replaced the old, narrow and inconvenient entrance on the opposite side of the fortress. It slopes steeply, winding down to the town square. At the highest point along its route are the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Convent of Sant\u2019Agnese and the Palazzo degli Ulivi.
