\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe church of San Paolo, or St. Paul, in Montone first appeared in public records in 1219 when the then rector, Raniero, completed the purchase of a plot of land that had been acquired by one of his predecessors.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe small chapel previously belonged to the parish church of Pieve di San Gregorio, and is now privately owned.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe dedication to St. Paul betrays its ancient origins which are linked to the Benedictine order, and it was the only church in the diocese until at least 1349 that was dedicated to the saint. The stone frame of the lunette of the small round-arched portal is of particular interest, and is decorated at the top with a cross inscribed in a circle.
