Documents in the municipal historical archives confirm that it was owned by the Confraternita del Gonfalone.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4ea72d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c4ea72d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLa riforma operata dopo la peste del 1348 rese Montone sempre pi\u00f9 autonomo da Perugia seppure fu questo un periodo molto travagliato a causa dello scisma d\u2019occidente e perch\u00e9 si dovette difendere dall\u2019attacco delle Compagnie di Ventura. A proposito di questo si pu\u00f2 dire\nche la fama di Montone \u00e8 strettamente legata alle fortune militari e politiche della famiglia Fortebracci, ma che subito dopo la morte di Braccio, 4 giugno 1424 nella battaglia di l\u2019Aquila, la citt\u00e0 torn\u00f2 sotto il diretto dominio della Chiesa. Fu governata, poi, fino al 1640 dalla famiglia Vitelli di Citt\u00e0 di Castello, per conto della Chiesa. Durante il XVIII sec, nel periodo napoleonico conobbe un periodo di rinnovamento sulla spinta delle nuove idee diffuse dalla Rivoluzione Francese, ma oltre ci\u00f2 fu questo un periodo alquanto negativo per le vendette contro il potere ecclesiastico che si manifestarono con l\u2019incendio della Chiesa di San Francesco, per cui fu necessario trasferire anche la preziosissima Reliquia della Santa Spina ora conservata dalle Suore Clarisse del Monastero di Santa Agnese di Montone e dell\u2019Archivio dei Frati minori con gravi perdite di preziosi documenti. Nel 1860, Montone fu annessa al Regno d\u2019Italia.
